POINT I/O

The Allen-Bradley POINT I/O (Bulletin 1734) is a compact, modular I/O platform designed for distributed control applications, offering a wide selection of digital, analog, relay, specialty, and network adapter modules that mount on a shared DIN-rail base. Decoding a catalog number reveals the module's full capability: the bulletin prefix 1734 identifies the POINT I/O family; the function code that follows indicates module type — IB for 24V DC sinking digital input, OE for analog output, IR for RTD input, IT for thermocouple input, or OW for relay output, among others; a trailing digit (2, 4, or 8) specifies the channel or point count per module; and an optional suffix refines the variant — E for electronically protected outputs, S for safety-rated (POINT Guard) or spring-clamp bases, D for diagnostic, K for conformal coat, and XT for extended-temperature operation. Network adapters integrate the backplane to open protocols including EtherNet/IP (1734-AENT / AENTR), ControlNet (1734-ACNR), DeviceNet (1734-ADN), and PROFIBUS DP (1734-APB). Full specifications are available in the POINT I/O Technical Data (1734-TD001).
