FLEX I/O

The Allen-Bradley FLEX I/O platform (Bulletin 1794) is a modular distributed I/O system designed for flexible, panel-mount installation across a wide range of industrial applications. Each node pairs a network adapter with one or more I/O modules mounted on a terminal base, supporting digital, analog, specialty, and combination module types. The catalog-number structure encodes key configuration details: the function code identifies the module type — I/O for digital, IE/OE for standard analog, IF/OF for isolated analog, IR for RTD, IT for thermocouple, and VHSC for very high-speed counter — followed by a voltage or signal designator (e.g., B=24V DC sinking, A=120V AC, V=24V DC sourcing) and a point count (8, 16, or 32 channels). Suffix characters such as D (Diagnostic), EP (electronically fused), I (Isolated), K (Conformal coat), and XT (Extended temperature) further define the variant. Network adapters — including 1794-AENTR (dual-port EtherNet/IP with DLR), 1794-ACN15 (ControlNet), and 1794-ADN (DeviceNet) — connect the I/O node to the control network. With 343 catalog numbers available, the FLEX I/O family covers virtually every signal type and network topology; consult the FLEX I/O Selection Guide (1794-SG002) for complete module and adapter selection guidance.
