Compact 5000 5069-IB16 16-Point Sinking Input Module Install Guide

This is the installation instructions document for the Compact 5000 digital 16-point sinking input modules, catalog numbers 5069-IB16, 5069-IB16F, and 5069-IB16K. It covers DIN rail mounting, removable terminal block (RTB) installation, wiring, power considerations, and module removal. The modules detect input state transitions from field devices and convert those signals to the logic level used by the controller. They are used as local or remote I/O modules with CompactLogix 5380, Compact GuardLogix 5380, and CompactLogix 5480 controller systems.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which catalog numbers does this installation document cover?
This document covers the 5069-IB16, 5069-IB16F, and 5069-IB16K digital 16-point sinking input modules.
Which controllers can use the 5069-IB16 modules?
The modules are used as local I/O modules in CompactLogix 5380, Compact GuardLogix 5380, and CompactLogix 5480 controller systems. They can also be used as remote I/O modules with CompactLogix 5380, Compact GuardLogix 5380, CompactLogix 5480 controllers, and some other Logix 5000 controllers.
Does the 5069-IB16 module support removal and insertion under power (RIUP)?
No. The module does not support RIUP capability. Power must be removed before inserting or removing the module. Similarly, the removable terminal block (RTB) does not support RIUP and must not be connected or disconnected while power is applied.
What RTB types are compatible with these modules?
The compatible RTB types are the 5069-RTB18-SPRING and the 5069-RTB18-SCREW. RTBs do not ship with Compact 5000 I/O modules and must be ordered separately.
What wire sizes are supported for the screw and spring RTBs?
Both the 5069-RTB18-SCREW and 5069-RTB18-SPRING connections accept 0.5…1.5 mm² (22…16 AWG) solid or stranded shielded copper wire rated at 105 °C (221 °F) or greater, with single wire connection only. The screw RTB allows a maximum wire diameter of 3.5 mm (0.14 in.) including insulation; the spring RTB allows 2.9 mm (0.11 in.) maximum diameter.
What type of DIN rail is required for the 5069-IB16 modules?
The modules require zinc-plated yellow-chromate steel DIN rail. Compatible sizes are EN50022 - 35 x 7.5 mm (1.38 x 0.30 in.) or EN50022 - 35 x 15 mm (1.38 x 0.59 in.). The use of aluminum, plastic, or other materials that can corrode or oxidize can result in improper or intermittent grounding.
What hazardous location approvals apply to the 5069-IB16K conformal-coated variant?
The K suffix indicates the conformal coating option. Modules marked with the K suffix may be used in UKEX/ATEX Zone 2 and IECEx Zone 2 classified locations. The type of protection is Ex ec IIC T4 Gc. The enclosure must provide a minimum ingress protection rating of IP54 and be accessible only by use of a tool.
