Frequently Asked Questions

How do I assign a function key to a button in FactoryTalk View ME?
From the Edit menu, select Key Assignments, or right-click the button and select Key Assignments. The guide refers to FactoryTalk View Help for the details of the Key Assignment Properties dialog box. You can assign up to 34 function keys to each graphic display (pages 347-348).
How do I press F13 to F20 or the K keys when testing on a PC?
A PC keyboard has only F1 to F12. F13 to F20 use Left Shift+F1 to F8, K1 to K12 use Right Alt+F1 to F12, and K13 to K20 use Right Shift+F1 to F8 (pages 347-348).
Why does a Goto display button not work in Test Display mode?
Test mode is not the same as running the display. Display navigation, data logging and macros do not work in test mode. Use Test Application from the Application menu to test them (pages 184 and 267).
How do I create the .mer runtime file?
With the application open in FactoryTalk View Studio, select Create Runtime Application from the Application menu, choose the folder, file name and the FactoryTalk View ME Station version in Save as type, choose a conversion option, and click Save (pages 184-186).
Can an HMI push button be used as an emergency stop?
No. The guide states: do not use push buttons for emergency stops; emergency stop buttons must be hard-wired (page 242).
Which data servers does FactoryTalk View ME support?
Rockwell Automation device servers (FactoryTalk Linx, the recommended data server for Rockwell Automation devices) and OPC data servers that support OPC Data Access v2.05a. On PanelView Plus terminals, OPC is supported only with KEPServer Enterprise (page 61).
