Frequently Asked Questions

What IP and NEMA/UL protection ratings apply to 800F operators?
Plastic Bulletin 800FP operators are rated IP69K and IP66, NEMA/UL Type 3/3R/4/4X/12/13. Metal Bulletin 800FM operators are rated IP65/66, NEMA/UL Type 3/3R/4/12/13. Momentary mushroom operators are IP65; plastic keyed operators are IP66, NEMA/UL Type 4/13 (not Type 4X). Publication 800-TD008 Table 2 lists exactly which catalog numbers qualify for IP69K.
What is the difference between 800FP (plastic) and 800FM (metal) operators?
Both share the same electrical contact blocks and 22 mm panel cutout. 800FP uses engineering-grade thermoplastic (chemical-resistant, IP69K) with a 1.7 N·m (15 lb·in) mounting torque. 800FM uses die-cast chrome-plated metal, rated IP65/66 with a 4.4 N·m (40 lb·in) mounting torque. Choose plastic for wash-down and harsh-chemical environments; choose metal for heavier-duty industrial panels where higher mechanical robustness is preferred.
Which contact blocks are compatible with the 800F operator family?
800F operators accept the stackable 3-across × 2-deep back-of-panel contact-block system (6 circuits max per operator). Standard blocks are rated A600/Q600 (screw, 600V AC) or A300/Q300 (spring-clamp, 300V AC). Low-voltage gold-plated blocks (C300, R150, AC15/DC13) are available for 5V/1 mA minimum signal applications. Rotating-collar latches allow one-hand tool-free removal.
Is the 800F family rated for wash-down and food-and-beverage applications?
Yes — the plastic 800FP operators carry IP69K rating (per ISO 20653), qualifying them for high-pressure/high-temperature spray wash-down. A specific list of IP69K-rated operators and assembled stations is in Table 2 of Publication 800-TD008. Metal operators top out at IP66 and are not IP69K-rated.
What is the mechanical life expectancy of an 800F push button?
Per EN 60947-5-1 Annex C, momentary push buttons and momentary mushrooms are rated 10,000,000 cycles. Selector switches, key selector switches, and SensEject key selectors are rated 1,000,000 cycles. Non-illuminated push-pull E-stops reach 500,000 cycles; twist-to-release and illuminated push-pull E-stops plus alternate-action buttons reach 300,000 cycles. Potentiometer and toggle-switch operators are rated 100,000 cycles.
Are the E-stop operators compliant with EN ISO 13850?
Yes. All 800F emergency-stop operators are EN ISO 13850 compliant when used with standard N.C., N.C.L.B., or self-monitoring contact blocks. E-stop operator/latch/contact-block combinations have been third-party tested for B10d values; see Rockwell publication SAFETY-SR001 for the safety-function data.
