Frequently Asked Questions
Which controllers is the PowerFlex 527 drive designed to work with?
The PowerFlex 527 is designed to connect and operate exclusively with the Allen-Bradley ControlLogix 1756-L7x, GuardLogix 1756-L7xS, and CompactLogix 5370 controllers using the Studio 5000 Logix Designer application version 24 or later.
What is the maximum power rating available for the PowerFlex 527?
The PowerFlex 527 is available up to 30 HP (22 kW) in Normal Duty ratings across 380...480V and 525...600V three-phase input configurations.
What safety rating does the PowerFlex 527 Safe Torque Off function achieve?
The Safe Torque Off function is certified by TÜV Rheinland to achieve Category 3 / PLe per EN ISO 13849-1 and SIL CL 3 per EN 62061, EN 61800-5-2, and IEC 61508. The safety reaction time from input signal to initiation of the configured stop type is less than 12 ms.
What network topologies does the built-in EtherNet/IP support?
The built-in dual-port EtherNet/IP supports linear, star, and ring topologies, including Device Level Ring (DLR) functionality for fault-tolerant connectivity. The CIP Safety protocol enables simultaneous transmission of safety and standard control data over the same network.
What is the maximum altitude at which the PowerFlex 527 can operate without derating?
The drive can be used without derating at a maximum altitude of 1000 m (3300 ft). Above that, derate maximum ambient temperature by 5 °C per additional 1000 m, or derate output current by 10% per additional 1000 m, up to voltage-dependent limits (e.g., 4000 m for 380...480V center-grounded systems).
Can PowerFlex 527 drives be zero-stacked in a panel?
Yes. Zero stacking (no clearance between drives) is allowed for ambient temperatures up to 45 °C (113 °F) for IP 20/Open Type enclosures. With the optional Control Module Fan Kit, zero-stacking is permitted up to 65 °C (149 °F) with derating applied.
What overload capability does the PowerFlex 527 provide?
For drives above 15 HP/11 kW in Normal Duty, 110% overload is available for up to 60 seconds or 150% for up to 3 seconds. Heavy Duty ratings provide 150% overload for up to 60 seconds or 180% for up to 3 seconds (200% programmable).
