Frequently Asked Questions

Which catalog numbers does this installation document cover?
The document covers standard CompactLogix 5380 controllers 5069-L306ER, 5069-L306ERM, 5069-L310ER, 5069-L310ER-NSE, 5069-L310ERM, 5069-L310ERMK, 5069-L320ER, 5069-L320ERM, 5069-L320ERMK, 5069-L330ER, 5069-L330ERM, 5069-L330ERMK, 5069-L340ER, 5069-L340ERM, 5069-L350ERM, 5069-L350ERMK, 5069-L380ERM, and 5069-L3100ERM, plus process controllers 5069-L320ERP and 5069-L340ERP.
Does the CompactLogix 5380 controller support Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP)?
No. The controller does not support RIUP. Power must be removed before inserting or removing the controller or its RTBs.
What external power supplies are required, and what are the maximum current limits?
The controller needs external power for MOD (system-side) power and SA (field-side) power. The total continuous current draw on the MOD power bus must not exceed 10 A at 18…32V DC. The total continuous current draw on the SA power bus must not exceed 10 A at 18…32V DC or 10 A at 18…240V AC. Rockwell Automation strongly recommends using separate external power supplies for MOD and SA power.
What RTBs are needed and are they included with the controller?
Two RTB types are needed: a 4-pin RTB for MOD power (5069-RTB4-SCREW or 5069-RTB4-SPRING) and a 6-pin RTB for SA power (5069-RTB6-SCREW or 5069-RTB6-SPRING). RTBs must be ordered separately; they are available in kits 5069-RTB64-SCREW or 5069-RTB64-SPRING, which contain both types.
What IP address modes does the CompactLogix 5380 controller support out of the box?
Out of the box, CompactLogix 5380 controllers are configured for Dual-IP mode with DHCP enabled on each Ethernet port. Dual-IP mode requires a unique IP address for each port and needs Logix Designer version 29.00.00 or later. Linear/DLR mode, which uses only one IP address, is also supported and can be configured using RSLinx Classic software.
What is the minimum Studio 5000 Logix Designer version required for each controller?
Version 28.00.00 or later is required for 5069-L320ER and 5069-L340ERM. Version 29.00.00 or later is required for 5069-L306ER, 5069-L306ERM, 5069-L310ER, 5069-L310ER-NSE, 5069-L310ERM, 5069-L310ERMK, 5069-L320ERM, 5069-L320ERMK, 5069-L330ER, 5069-L330ERM, 5069-L330ERMK, and 5069-L340ER. Version 30.00.00 or later is required for 5069-L350ERM, 5069-L350ERMK, 5069-L380ERM, and 5069-L3100ERM. Version 33.00.00 or later is required for 5069-L320ERP and 5069-L340ERP.
What DIN rail type is required and how must it be mounted?
An EN50022 - 35 x 7.5 mm (1.38 x 0.30 in.) zinc-plated chromate-passivated steel DIN rail is required. The DIN rail must be mounted horizontally and secured to the mounting surface approximately every 200 mm (7.8 in.) with end-anchors used appropriately. The controller must be the leftmost component on the rail.
