Frequently Asked Questions

Which catalog numbers does this installation document cover?
This document covers the 5069-OB16, 5069-OB16F, and 5069-OB16K digital 16-point sourcing output modules.
Which controllers can use the 5069-OB16 modules as local or remote I/O?
The modules can be used as local I/O in CompactLogix 5380, Compact GuardLogix 5380, and CompactLogix 5480 controller systems. They can also be used as remote I/O with those controllers and some other Logix 5000 controllers.
Do the 5069-OB16 modules draw current from the SA power bus?
No. The 5069-OB16, 5069-OB16F, and 5069-OB16K output modules do not use SA power. The modules pass SA power through to the next modules in the system. Field-side power is supplied via the Local Actuator (LA+ and LA-) terminals on the RTB.
Does the RTB support removal and insertion under power (RIUP)?
No. The RTB does not support RIUP capability. Power must be removed before connecting or disconnecting the RTB to avoid electric arc, which could cause an explosion in hazardous location installations.
What RTB types are compatible with these modules?
The 5069-RTB18-SPRING and 5069-RTB18-SCREW removable terminal blocks are compatible. RTBs do not ship with the modules and must be ordered separately.
What are the hazardous location ratings for the 5069-OB16 modules?
The modules are rated CL I, DIV 2, GP A, B, C, D for North American hazardous locations, and are approved for UKEX/ATEX and IECEx Zone 2 environments with protection type Ex ec IIC T4 Gc. Catalog numbers followed by "K" indicate a conformal coating option.
What DIN rail type is required for Compact 5000 I/O modules?
Use the EN50022 - 35 x 7.5 mm (1.38 x 0.30 in.) DIN rail. Zinc-plated chromate-passivated steel DIN rail is required to assure proper grounding. Secure the DIN rail to the mounting surface approximately every 200 mm (7.8 in.) and use end-anchors appropriately.
