Frequently Asked Questions

How many I/O modules can a single 5069-AENTR adapter support?
The adapter can communicate with as many as 31 local Compact 5000 I/O modules installed to its right on the DIN rail.
How do I set the IP address using the rotary switches?
The adapters ship DHCP-enabled with rotary switches set to 999. If the network uses 192.168.1.x, turn the three rotary switches to the desired last octet value (001…254) before installing the adapter. At powerup the adapter sets its IP to 192.168.1.xxx, subnet mask 255.255.255.0, and gateway 0.0.0.0. For other network ranges, leave the switches at 999 and use a DHCP server, BOOTP DHCP EtherNet/IP Commissioning Tool (v3.02.00 or later), or RSLinx Classic software after powerup.
Does the 5069-AENTR support Removal and Insertion Under Power (RIUP)?
No. The adapter does not support RIUP. Power must be removed before inserting or removing the adapter or connecting/disconnecting the RTB or communication cable.
What power supplies are required, and can one supply serve both MOD and SA power?
The adapter requires separate external power supplies for MOD power (system-side, 18…32V DC) and SA power (field-side, DC or AC). Rockwell Automation strongly recommends using separate supplies so that loss of one does not affect the other. The adapter itself has no embedded power supply. SELV-listed supplies are required when Functional Safety modules are connected.
What DIN rail materials are compatible with the adapters?
Use zinc-plated chromate-passivated steel DIN rail, either EN50022 35 x 7.5 mm or EN50022 35 x 15 mm. Aluminum, plastic, or other materials that corrode or oxidize can result in improper or intermittent grounding and are not recommended.
What is the operating temperature range, and does vertical mounting affect it?
The rated operating temperature is 0…60 °C (32…140 °F). When the DIN rail is mounted vertically, the operating ambient temperature must be derated to 30% of the maximum Ta, giving a maximum of 42 °C (108 °F).
What hazardous location certifications do the 5069-AENTR and 5069-AENTRK carry?
The adapters are approved for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D (North American). They also carry UKEX (certificate UL22UKEX2494X) and ATEX (certificate DEMKO16ATEX1758X) approval as Equipment Category II 3 G, Ex ec IIC T4 Gc for Zone 2, and IECEx certification (IECExUL16.0124X) for Zone 2. The K suffix indicates conformal coating. In Zone 2 installations the adapter must be mounted in a certified enclosure with minimum IP54 ingress protection.
