Communication Protocols

Supported industrial networks and field buses for the products covered by this publication.

EtherNet/IP Supports Device Level Ring (DLR), linear, and star network topologies. Terminal operates as a ring node only on DLR networks. Dual-port models required for DLR. Single-port models can attach only at the ends of a linear network. IEEE 1588 synchronization supported on single-port models.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which controllers can the PanelView Plus 7 Standard terminal communicate with?
The PanelView Plus 7 Standard terminals communicate with ControlLogix 5570 and CompactLogix 5370 controllers over an EtherNet/IP connection. Only Ethernet communication is supported; if RSLinx Enterprise software is used, Ethernet drivers are supported.
What are the application limits on a PanelView Plus 7 Standard terminal?
FactoryTalk View ME applications on these terminals are restricted to a maximum of 100 screens, 500 alarm messages, and one connection or shortcut to a controller using either RSLinx Enterprise or KEPServer Enterprise software.
What network topologies does the terminal support?
The terminal supports Device Level Ring (DLR), linear, and star EtherNet/IP network topologies. DLR operation requires a dual-port model (catalog number suffix 22, e.g., 2711P-T10C22D8S). Single-port models can attach only at the ends of a linear network. The terminal operates only as a ring node on DLR networks.
What are the power requirements for the terminal?
The terminals require a 24V DC nominal input (18…30V DC), nonisolated, at a maximum of 35 W (1.46 A at 24V DC). A SELV or PELV 24V DC power supply is required. Supported supply catalog numbers include 1606-XLP95E, 1606-XLP100E, and 2711P-RSACDIN.
How is the terminal mounted in a panel, and what panel thickness is supported?
The terminal mounts in a panel cutout using gray mounting levers (catalog number 2711P-RMCS). No tools are required to mount the terminal, though tools are needed to make the panel cutout. Panel thickness must be 1.5…4.8 mm (0.060…0.188 in.). Six locking positions on each mounting slot accommodate different panel gauges. The enclosure must be IP20 or greater.
How do I upgrade the terminal firmware?
Firmware can be upgraded using three methods: from a storage device (SD card or USB flash drive) using a firmware upgrade card created with the Firmware Upgrade Wizard, or over the network. Firmware files are downloaded from the Product Compatibility and Download Center. Series C hardware supports firmware 8.x or later; Series D hardware supports firmware 13.x or later.
What certifications apply to hazardous location use?
The terminals are rated for Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, and D; Class II, Division 2, Groups F and G; and Class III hazardous locations. They also carry ATEX (DEMKO 14 ATEX 1302X), IECEx (IECEx UL 20.0046X), and INMETRO (UL-BR 14.0716X) certifications for Zone 2 and Zone 22 applications, with a temperature code of T4 at a maximum ambient temperature of 55 °C (131 °F).
