Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the E300 and E200 overload relay?
The communication module determines whether the assembled device is an E300 or E200. An overload system configured with the 193-ECM-PCM communication option is an E200 assembly. The E200 is targeted for non-networked (remote) applications and is configured using Connected Components Workbench software via a USB Type B port, three rotary dials for FLA, and an 8-position DIP switch for trip class and feature selection. The E300 supports EtherNet/IP (dual-port) and DeviceNet (single-port) network communication.
What protection functions does the E300/E200 relay provide?
The relay provides overload, phase loss, ground fault, current imbalance, jam (overcurrent), underload (undercurrent), stall, thermistor (PTC), remote trip, blocked start/start inhibit, under/over voltage, voltage unbalance, phase rotation, under/over frequency, under/over real power (kW), reactive power (kVAR), apparent power (kVA), power factor, and over analog. Both trip and warning outputs are available for most protection types.
What current ranges do the E300/E200 sensing modules cover?
Sensing modules are available in four current ranges: 0.5…30 A, 6…60 A, 10…100 A, and 20…200 A. For motor overload protection applications greater than 200 A, external current transformers (CTs) can be used. UL-compliant CTs are available at 300 A and 600 A ratios; CE-compliant CTs are available at 300 A and 400 A ratios.
What are the operating temperature limits for the E300/E200 relay?
The operating temperature range is -20…+55 °C (-4…+131 °F) for open installations and -20…+40 °C (-4…+104 °F) for enclosed installations. Storage temperature is -40…+85 °C (-40…+185 °F). The expansion power supplies (193-EXP-PS-AC and 193-EXP-PS-DC) must not exceed a surrounding air temperature of 55 °C (131 °F).
Is the E300/E200 relay suitable for functional safety (SIL) applications?
Yes. The E300/E200 relay is SIL 2 Capable per IEC 61508:2010 Parts 1-7 when used with a Series B Control Module. It is a Type B device and, in a low demand application as the only component in a final element subassembly, a design can meet SIL 2 at HFT=0 per Route 2H requirements. All automatic diagnostics detect product faults within a diagnostic test interval of 300 ms. The useful life is 10 to 15 years or 5,000,000 operations, whichever results in a shorter useful life.
How many expansion modules can be added to the E300/E200 relay?
Up to four additional expansion digital modules and up to four additional expansion analog modules can be added to the E300/E200 relay expansion bus. One operator station can also be added. When more than one expansion digital module and one operator station are used, an expansion power supply is required to supplement power for the additional modules.
What EtherNet/IP connection types does the E300 communication module support?
The EtherNet/IP communication module supports 2 concurrent Class 1 connections (1 exclusive owner plus 1 input only or 1 listen only) and 6 simultaneous Class 3 connections (explicit messaging). It also includes an embedded web server, SMTP server for trip and warning events (email and text messaging), an embedded EDS file, and a Studio 5000 Add-on Profile. The module has two RJ45 ports supporting star, linear, and ring topology.
