Frequently Asked Questions

Which catalog numbers are covered by publication 1783-IN003?
The following Series B catalog numbers are covered: 1783-US5T, 1783-US4T1F, 1783-US4T1H, 1783-US8T, 1783-US6T2F, 1783-US6T2H, 1783-US7T1F, 1783-US7T1H, 1783-US16T, 1783-US5TG, 1783-US16T2S, 1783-US8TG2GX, 1783-US6T2TG2F, and 1783-US6T2TG2H.
What is the operating temperature range for the Stratix 2000 switches?
Catalog numbers 1783-US5T Series B and 1783-US8T Series B are rated -10 to +60 °C (14 to 140 °F). All other Series B models are rated -40 to +75 °C (-40 to +167 °F).
What type of DIN rail must be used for proper grounding?
The product must be mounted on zinc-plated yellow-chromate steel DIN rail to ensure proper grounding. Aluminum or plastic DIN rails can corrode, oxidize, or conduct poorly, resulting in improper or intermittent grounding. The DIN rail must be secured approximately every 200 mm (7.8 in.) with end-anchors used appropriately.
What power supply input is supported?
The switch accepts 12…48V DC or 18…30V AC (50…60 Hz) with a nominal voltage of 24V. The power source must be SELV-compliant per EN/IEC 60950-1, EN/IEC 61010-2-201, or EN/IEC 62368-1 (ES1). The switch supports a redundant power supply via a 4-pin, 5.08 mm-spacing plug-in terminal block.
Does the switch support auto-MDIX on copper ports?
Yes. The switch supports automatic medium dependent interface crossover (auto-MDIX), which detects the required cable type and configures the interface accordingly. Either crossover or straight-through Category 5e or better cables with RJ45 connectors can be used regardless of the device on the other end.
What hazardous location approvals apply to these switches?
The switches carry North American Class I, Division 2, Groups A, B, C, D approval. Models marked II 3 G also hold ATEX approval (certificate DEMKO 16 ATEX 1816X), UKEX approval (certificate UL22UKEX2688X), and IECEx approval (certificate IECEx UL 16.0169X). The type of protection is Ex ec IIC T4 Gc, suitable for Zone 2 environments.
What minimum clearances are required to prevent overheating?
To prevent overheating, maintain at least 51 mm (2.0 in.) on the top, bottom, and sides of the switch, and at least 64 mm (2.50 in.) at the front.
