1747-AENTR SLC 500 EtherNet/IP Adapter User Manual

This user manual covers the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of the Allen-Bradley 1747-AENTR SLC 500 EtherNet/IP Adapter. The adapter acts as a gateway between the SLC 1746 backplane and an EtherNet/IP network, enabling CompactLogix and ControlLogix controllers to control 1746 and 1747 I/O modules. It is primarily intended to support migration of SLC-controlled systems to Logix-based systems. Compatible software includes RSLogix 5000 or Logix Designer revision 20 or later and RSLinx version 2.59 or later.

Communication Protocols

Supported industrial networks and field buses for the products covered by this publication.

EtherNet/IP Uses CIP (Common Industrial Protocol) for both explicit messaging and implicit (real-time I/O) messaging. Supports DLR protocol via Embedded Switch Toolkit. Two external RJ-45 ports operate as a Layer 2 embedded switch compliant with IEEE 802.3 and IEEE 802.1 ID standards.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the 1747-AENTR adapter replace in an existing SLC system?
The 1747-AENTR typically replaces an SLC controller in the 1746 rack. On remote SLC racks, it replaces the 1747-ASB module or the ControlNet adapters 1747-ACN15 and 1747-ACNR15.
Which controllers can use the 1747-AENTR adapter?
CompactLogix and ControlLogix processors can control SLC I/O modules through the 1747-AENTR adapter. The controller communicates through an EtherNet/IP router in the Logix backplane, across EtherNet/IP, and into the adapter.
How many chassis and I/O modules does the 1747-AENTR support?
With Studio 5000 Logix Designer revision 21 or later and firmware revision 2.001 or later, the adapter supports a maximum of three chassis, up to 30 SLC I/O modules, a maximum of 96 Class 1 connections, and up to 8 Class 3 connections.
What connection types does the 1747-AENTR support per SLC module?
The adapter supports one Exclusive Owner connection, up to five Input Only connections, and up to five Listen Only connections per SLC module. The adapter only supports direct connections to individual modules.
How do I set the IP address on the 1747-AENTR?
The IP address can be set using the network address rotary switches on the module (valid settings 001 to 254, which assigns 192.168.1.xxx), via the Rockwell Automation BootP/DHCP utility version 2.3 or later, via a third-party DHCP server, or retrieved from nonvolatile memory. Setting the switches to 888 restores factory defaults.
What software versions are required to configure the 1747-AENTR?
RSLogix 5000 revision 20 or later (or Studio 5000 Logix Designer revision 20 or later), RSLinx software version 2.59 or later, and 1747-AENTR firmware revision 1.001 or later are required.
How is the web server enabled or disabled on the 1747-AENTR?
With firmware revision 2.003 or later, the web server is disabled by default. Set the network address switches to 000 and cycle power to enable the web server. Set the switches to 901 and cycle power to disable it. After the status message scrolls, the switch must be returned to the operating address value and power cycled again for normal operation.
