1747-AENTR SLC 500 EtherNet/IP Adapter Installation Instructions

This document is the installation instructions for the Allen-Bradley 1747-AENTR SLC 500 EtherNet/IP Adapter module. It covers hardware installation, RJ-45 network connection, IP address configuration, status indicator interpretation, and module specifications. The 1747-AENTR is designed to allow SLC I/O to be controlled by a CompactLogix or ControlLogix processor when migrating existing SLC-controlled systems to a Logix-based controller. It must be installed in slot 0 of the SLC chassis and requires an Allen-Bradley 1746-series power supply.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where must the 1747-AENTR be installed in the SLC chassis?
The 1747-AENTR module must be installed only in slot 0, the leftmost slot of the chassis. There should only be one 1747-AENTR device installed within the same rack or its connected rack extensions for multiple chassis support.
Which power supplies are compatible with the 1747-AENTR?
The 1747-AENTR must be powered from Allen-Bradley power supply models 1746-P1, 1746-P2, 1746-P3, 1746-P4, 1746-P5, 1746-P6, or 1746-P7. The 1746-P4 must not be used in UL Class 1, Division 2, Hazardous Locations.
How do you set the IP address on the 1747-AENTR?
The IP address can be set in three ways: using the network address switches on the module (valid settings 001 to 254, which assigns an address of 192.168.1.xxx), using a DHCP server such as Rockwell Automation BootP/DHCP, or retrieving the address from nonvolatile memory. The factory default is DHCP enabled with switches set to 999. Setting the switches to 888 restores factory default settings.
What does a flashing red Module LED indicate?
A flashing red Module LED indicates a recoverable fault. Possible causes include IP address switches not matching the configuration in use, the device having completed a reset to factory defaults (switches set to 888 at powerup requiring a power cycle), or the device performing a firmware flash update.
What network topologies does the 1747-AENTR support?
The 1747-AENTR supports Star, Tree, Daisy chain/Linear, and Ring Ethernet network topologies. It has two Ethernet ports configured as an embedded switch using RJ-45 Category 5 connectors.
What processors can control SLC I/O through the 1747-AENTR?
The 1747-AENTR allows SLC I/O to be controlled by a CompactLogix or ControlLogix processor. Any Rockwell Automation CIP connection originating device can communicate and share I/O data through the adapter. The module is intended for migrating existing SLC-controlled systems to a Logix-based controller.
What are the connection limits of the 1747-AENTR on firmware revision 1.001?
On firmware revision 1.001, the adapter supports one exclusive owner connection per SLC module, up to 5 Input Only connections per module, up to 5 Listen Only connections per module, up to 5 explicit messaging connections to the adapter, and up to 5 consumers per multicast connection. Partial sets of I/O and rack connections are not supported on firmware revision 1.001.
