Frequently Asked Questions

How many I/O modules can the 1734-EPAC or 1734-EPACK support?
The AC expansion power supply supports 4 to 17 I/O modules to its right, depending on the current required by each module and the DIN rail mounting orientation. The total POINTBus current must not exceed 1.3 A for horizontal mounting or 1.0 A for vertical mounting. Twelve modules is typical depending on current draw.
Which POINT I/O adapters are compatible with the 1734-EPAC?
The 1734-EPAC and 1734-EPACK may only be used with POINT I/O adapters, including the 1734-ADN, 1734-ADNX, 1734-APB, 1734-ACNR, and 1734-AENT. They must not be used with the 1734-PDN module or with POINTBlock modules.
What is the input voltage range of the 1734-EPAC?
The nominal input voltage is 120/240V AC at 50 to 60 Hz. The operating input voltage range is 85 to 264V AC.
What is the difference between 1734-EPAC and 1734-EPACK?
The 1734-EPACK is the conformal coated version of the 1734-EPAC. Catalog numbers with the suffix K are conformal coated, and their specifications are the same as the non-conformal coated catalogs.
What does the AC expansion power supply do for field power partitioning?
The unit creates a field-voltage partition segment that separates field power from I/O modules to the left of it. This allows functional partitioning to separate field power between input and output modules, and logical partitioning to group modules that perform a specific task or function.
What wire sizes are accepted at the terminal block?
The terminal block accepts 14 to 22 AWG (2.5 to 0.34 mm2) solid or stranded copper wire rated at 75 °C or greater, with a maximum insulation diameter of 1.2 mm (3/64 in.). Terminal base screw torque is 0.8 N•m (7 lb•in).
What DIN rail material should be used with POINT I/O?
POINT I/O is grounded through the DIN rail to chassis ground. The installation instructions specify the use of zinc-plated chromate-passivated steel DIN rail to ensure proper grounding. Other materials such as aluminum or plastic can corrode, oxidize, or conduct poorly, resulting in improper or intermittent platform grounding.
